Summertime, and the living is easy...

For a cool way to spend a hot summer afternoon, be sure to see Wall Works, the current project at our Berkeley space which will close July 15. The show has been extended from its original closing date of March 31 due to tremendous response, so don’t miss it. Call 510-527-1214 to schedule a time to come by.

In July and August we will be featuring new work by our artists as we prepare for the fall project in Berkeley: Photo-based, which will run September through December. This show will include new photo-based work by several artists, including Johnna Arnold, Dennis Begg, Ken Fandell, Ellen Carey and Amanda Marchand among others. The exhibition opens September 1 and continues through December 2005. Please email if you are interested in knowing about special events and receptions for this exhibition.

Site 4: the fourth in our series of exhibitions and projects in changing locations will feature new paintings by Linda Mieko Allen. This show will be in San Francisco, location TBD, so please stay tuned for more information…

Linda Mieko Allen has work in the exhibition: Neo Mod: Recent Northern California Abstraction, which traveled from the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, and opened at the Monterey Museum of Art May 28, and continues through August 28. She will also have work in a group show this summer at Nancy Hoffman Gallery in New York.

Johnna Arnold will show work at the SFMoMA Artists Gallery as part of a special exhibition that honors KALA on the occasion of its 30th Anniversary. Johnna was one of 30 artists invited to be a part of this special event.

Dennis Begg will show new work in our fall exhibition: Photo-based that opens in September. He will also have a solo exhibition at the Bolinas Art Museum opening in September.

Amy Berk will have work in Bay Area Now 4 as part of stretcher at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The exhibition runs July 15-November 6, 2005. She will host a dinner salon in the lobby of Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on Thursday, September 22 (7-9) on the topic, “Interdisciplinary Dreaming: Art, Writing, and Curating Across Disciplines.” And she will have work in the “E-Bay art project Exhibition” at Works Gallery, San Jose August 23 – September 17.

Jamie Brunson’s work was featured in an exhibition at the SFMoMA Artist Gallery that closed June 24. Her work is also featured in two group exhibitions this summer: 5, at Emmanuel Gallery in Denver, CO; and in Neo Mod: Recent Northern California Abstraction at the Monterey Museum of Art.

Ellen Carey will have work in the upcoming exhibition Romancing the Shadows at the Palo Alto Art Center. The show opens September 25 and continues through January 1, 2006. Her work will also be included in the Fall Exhibition at our Berkeley space: Photo-based.

Ken Fandell’s work is in a group show at Mixture Contemporary in Houston opening this month. He will have a solo exhibition this fall at Howard House in Seattle, showing his 5-year, 7-video project “The Planets” Learn more at www.kenfandell.com.

Amy Kaufman has work in the exhibition: Neo Mod: Recent Northern California Abstraction, which opened at the Monterey Museum of Art in May and continues through August 28. She has been invited to participate again in this year’s Monotype Marathon at the San Jose ICA, June 17 - July 9. She was also the featured artist in Site 3, the third in our series of exhibitions and projects in changing locations. The exhibition closed at 20 Hawthorne in San Francisco in April.

Amanda Marchand’s work from her 415/514 series is in a solo show, The Density of Air, at the Bolinas Art Museum that continues through June 26.

Stas Orlovski will have work in the show New Prints 2005/Spring, which was juried by Kiki Smith, at the International Print Center New York, NYC, which runs May 5-June 15. He will be a Guest Lecture at The Getty Museum June 3rd and June 17th this summer in LA. And he was featured in an article in ArtScene titled The New Zeitgeist, by John O’Brien.
