Benicia Gantner

Traywick Contemporary is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by San Francisco-based artist Benicia Gantner that will feature her recent work in vinyl collage. This will be Gantner's first solo exhibition with Traywick Contemporary, and as part of the show, she will also be executing a new large-scale, site-specific wall drawing.

Benicia Gantner's reductive landscapes are built from dense layers of hand and computer cut vinyl laminate which she applies to colorful cast-coated papers, acrylic panels and wall surfaces. Typically a material with commercial applications, vinyl laminate furthers her interest in our experience of a natural world that is infused with artifice. She splices and grafts organic forms, creating new hybrid shapes and objects that float effortlessly, suspended in imagined spaces and defying laws of gravity.

Gantner's work has been shown extensively on the west coast, including recent exhibitions at the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts, Southern Exposure and the Richmond Art Center. She was also a finalist for the 2006 SECA award from SFMoMA.
